Peter has officially moved out to Denver, and I will follow in a week or so, after spending Thanksgiving with my family in Kentucky. The movers have finished their job, and Peter keeps sending me pictures of our new home as he unpacks. I am just so excited to get out there and set up house.
And I am BEYOND excited to actually put up a real-size Christmas tree for the first time! We've been living in a condo for 4 years, and I lived in various apartments before that, so there was never any space. We now have a 2-story home with a basement AND A YARD! So I am taking full advantage and starting Christmas traditions with my new little family.
That being said, I HATE goodbyes. Hate them. It's awkward and sad and I can't stand thinking about how I'm not going to see the people that have become such amazing friends to us throughout the 8 years we've lived in D.C. I have seen my friends get married, have babies and then have more babies. I've helped them through so much, and it kills me that I won't be able to watch these babies grow up in real life. I fear they will forget all about their Auntie Em. Ugh it just breaks my heart.

I just keep reminding myself that we live in the age of technology and travel. There is absolutely no reason I won't come back to visit. After all, I did just get married, and all 5 of my bridesmaids live in different states. Proof right there that I will keep my lasting friendships, no matter the distance.
My best friend, Stephanie, moved from Kentucky to Georgia during our 11th grade year. I'll never forget the sadness I felt that day, but here we are, 13 years later, better friends than ever! Before she left, she gave me a little picture frame that said:
"A friend's smile remains close at heart despite the miles."
This quote plays over and over in my head as the final few days of Emily in D.C. come to an end.
